Biodiversity in action

Here we see real biodiversity in action. Filmed on the 31st May on our school grounds at about 8pm, you can see and hear the birds and the bees, and a few humans too. We didn’t plant wildflower seeds but instead let the grass grow and reduced mowing. Commercial wildflower seeds can contain invasive species which our native insects don’t want…mow less, see more! Our caretaker takes the time to let the grass grow wild , the natural wild flowers bloom and the insects, birds, bees, rabbits and foxes thrive.

Our Student Council Environment Committee were the National overall Junior Winners in the Eco-Unesco Young Environmentalist Awards. Click on the image or here to read about our Student Climate Conference Project which met in May and brought all schools in Tralee together.

The Gallery below shows some images of our environmental work. The tomatoes and apples come from our greenhouse and polytunnel respectively. We visit organic and dairy farms as part of their work with the Environment Committee.
